Dec. 6th, 2008 @ 11:24 pm Cruise kills Hitler
Tom Cruise's PR isn't so good right now, as I'm sure you know. He can't get a major motion picture company to hire him ever since his craziness affected MI:3 ticket sales.

So he's taken the safest hero role possible in his new movie, Valkyrie: he is gong to kill Hitler. Sure he is a weirdo, but once he kills Hitler, we'll have to like him, right?

I wish Cruise luck, but something tells me that he is going to kill Hitler in a way that is both cheesy and desperate. I don't think it will work. In fact I don't think it will be long before he does something to cement his status, like appearing on a reality show or a commercial for DirecTV.

This is how it works: If you're famous, you have to start out crazy (James Brown, Gary Busey); you can't turn crazy, we don't like it. Also, don't start crazy and turn normal, that is boring.

I just finished reading Neal Stephenson's book, Anathem and I really enjoyed it. If you like Sci-fi and/or fantasy books, I strongly suggest you check it out. You can read my review here: http://ping.fm/nZxJk

Oct. 3rd, 2008 @ 12:38 pm VP debate 2008
Current Mood: annoyedannoyed
Last night I saw a tactic that I have seen from other debates. Whenever someone who denies evolution or the moon landing debates a scientist, they do the same thing. When a previous statement has been falsified, or the subject is unfamiliar, the debater just ignores the other person and/or changes topics.

Example:

Mod: Which of you is a better speller?

Aaron: I am. My spelling is second to none

Betty: I disagree, Aaron has never won a spelling bee, whereas I won 17 last year.

Aaron: My handwriting is better too. Also, English is Betty's second language.

Betty: That is irrelevant and untrue, I was born in Michigan. That doesn't matter anyway.

Mod: Next topic, do you prefer words with German or Latin roots?

Aaron: I would just like to point out that since Betty came to the U.S. from France, she has never visited the Statue of Liberty. I know because I visit it all the time.

This could be a combination of lack of experience and being coached to stay on the "talking points." If it was a conscious effort, the implications are much worse. Palin is trying to win over "Joe Sixpack," which isn't easy, considering she is a Governor with 1.2M in assets. So she has adopted a down home persona, hoping to connect to voters on a personal level, maybe she saw how well it worked for G.W. Bush. Either way, she must not think much of middle class America to believe that these sorts of things will go unnoticed.

May. 16th, 2008 @ 01:26 am Bah
I'm up, I might as well post. No one here has heard from me in any significant way for a while.

I did well in my classes: A, B, B, C+, C. The C took 80% of my time and energy. Organic chemistry. In every other class I try to understand the way the information relates and why it is important. Chem always just feels like answering questions

Jessica and I are having a lot of fun, we recently had a nice visit in Titusville for Mother's Day

I have been geocaching quite a bit lately, I'm at 140+ finds; I hope to be doing more. Unfortunately, I haven't been doing much because I majorly screwed up the computer. That is just an overview of the computer nightmare, lemme know if you want the gruesome details.

I'll probably end up working at blockbuster over the summer. It is ironic that after 8 years of higher education my job prospects are the same as when I was in high school. Once again, dramatic irony because I know that I have the education, but my employer never will.

Big projects for this summer:

# Get an outline for my future classroom
# Get a domain and blog for us and the
# story blog
# apply for internship
# build a laser cutter
# California trip

For some reason I am itching to learn python, I doubt I will any time soon

In fact, listen to 3a - known for his reach

I just spent 20 minutes writing this and I blame you. I hope you are happy, internets.

OK, I disabled Loudtwitter posting because I figured it was mostly annoying; so now you wont see my twitter updates here anymore. I'm going to remove them from my tumblr too. Now when you go to those places, it is less stuff, but more stuff that you would actually want to read. Most of you are my friends on facebook, so you see everything there anyway.

In other news, I have an exam tomorrow - Organic Chemistry. I have studied quite a bit for it, but I am still having trouble with one thing: nucleophilic substitution. I can't seem to get a grasp on it. Sure, I have memorized which situations lead to which types, and the difference from elimination, but I just can't get a handle on the mechanisms...

If I don't pass this exam, it will set me back a year. Thats right, a year - because UNF cut organic in the summer and it is a prerequisite to the three remaining classes I have to take. Needless to say, I'm pretty nervous about it.
